વ્યાઘની વાર્તા

એક સન્યાસી એક જંગલમાં ગયા. તેઓ એક વૃક્ષ નીચે ધ્યાન ધરવા બેઠા. વૃક્ષ ઉપર એક કાગડો અને બગલો ઝઘડતા હતા એટલે સન્યાસીને ધ્યાન ધરવામાં વિક્ષેપ પડતો હતો. સન્યાસી ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયા અને એમણે માત્ર એક વિચાર જ કર્યો કે આ કાગડો અને બગલો બળીને ભસ્મ થઇ જવા જોઈએ. સંન્યાસીનું ત્યાગમય જીવન અને ધ્યાનની એકાગ્રતા હોવાથી એમની પાસે અપાર શક્તિ આવી ગઈ હતી. એમના આ વિચાર માત્રથી જ કાગડો અને બગલો બળીને ભસ્મ થઇ ગયા! આ જોઇને સન્યાસીને પોતાની શક્તિ માટે અભિમાન થઇ ગયું.

એક દિવસ તેઓ ગામમાં ભિક્ષા લેવા ગયા. તેમણે એક ઘરે જઈને ભિક્ષા માંગી. ઘરમાં એક સ્ત્રી કામમાં વ્યસ્ત હતી. એણે સન્યાસીને થોડી રાહ જોવા કહ્યું. થોડો વધારે સમય રાહ જોવી પડી એટલે સન્યાસીને ગુસ્સો આવી ગયો. પેલી સ્ત્રી ઘરમાંથી ભિક્ષા લઈને બહાર આવી. એણે સન્યાસીને કહ્યું કે એમના માટે આવો ગુસ્સો કરવો યોગ્ય નથી અને દરેક વખતે પેલાં પક્ષીઓ બળી ગયાં એવું ન બને. સન્યાસીને ખુબ જ નવાઈ લાગી કે આ સ્ત્રીને જંગલમાં બનેલી ઘટનાની કેવી રીતે ખબર પડી?

સન્યાસીએ સ્ત્રીને એની આવી શક્તિ વિષે પૂછ્યું. એ સ્ત્રીએ કહ્યું કે તે ખુબ જ સમર્પિત થઈને એના કુટુંબની સેવા કરે છે. તે નિષ્ઠાપૂર્વક એના કામ કરે છે અને ભગવાનની સેવા કરતી હોય એવી રીતે ઘરડા સાસુ સસરાની સેવા કરે છે. આથી એને આવી શક્તિ મળી છે. એ સ્ત્રીએ સન્યાસીને એક વ્યાઘ - કસાઈ પાસે જઈને થોડું જ્ઞાન મેળવવા કહ્યું.

સન્યાસીને એક કસાઈ પાસે જ્ઞાન લેવા માટે સંકોચ તો થયો પરંતુ આ સ્ત્રીની શક્તિ જોઇને એમને થયું કે એણે જેની પાસે જ્ઞાન લેવાનું સુચન કર્યું છે એ વ્યાઘને મળવું તો જોઈએ. સન્યાસી વ્યાઘને ઘરે ગયા ત્યારે એ માંસ કાપતો હતો! આખા ઘરમાં વાસ આવતી હતી. સન્યાસીએ વિચાર્યું કે આવો ઘાતકી માણસ કેવી રીતે જ્ઞાન આપી શકે? વ્યાઘે સન્યાસીને કહ્યું કે તેને ખબર છે કે પેલી સ્ત્રીએ એમને અહીં મોકલ્યા છે. એણે સન્યાસીને થોડી રાહ જોવા કહ્યું. સન્યાસીને ખુબ જ નવાઈ લાગી કે આ વ્યાઘને આ વાતની કેવી રીતે ખબર છે?

વ્યાઘ સન્યાસીને એના ઘરમાં લઇ ગયો અને થોડી રાહ જોવા કહ્યું. એણે એના ઘરડા મા બાપને સ્નાન કરાવ્યું, ખાવા આપ્યું, દવા આપી અને એમને સુવા માટે પથારી કરી આપી. પછી એ સન્યાસી પાસે આવ્યો.

સન્યાસીએ વ્યાઘને આત્મા બાબતે અને અન્ય ઉચ્ચ કક્ષાના જ્ઞાન બાબતે પૂછ્યું. વ્યાઘે સન્યાસીને ઘણો જ સુંદર ઉપદેશ આપ્યો જે "વ્યાઘ ગીતા" તરીકે જાણીતો છે.

વ્યાઘે સન્યાસીને કહ્યું કે કોઈ પણ કામ ખરાબ નથી. તે પોતે પોતાના આગલા જન્મના કર્મોને લીધે આ જન્મમાં વ્યાઘ-કસાઈ થયો હતો. પરંતુ એ એની ફરજો પ્રત્યે સમર્પિત હતો અને ભગવાનની જેમ એના મા બાપની સેવા કરતો હતો. પેલી સ્ત્રી પણ એની ફરજો પ્રત્યે સમર્પિત હતી. દરેક વ્યક્તિએ નિષ્ઠાપૂર્વક સમર્પિત થઈને પોતાના કાર્યો કરવા જોઈએ. આ રીતે કોઈ ગૃહસ્થ અને સન્યાસી વચ્ચે કોઈ જ તફાવત નથી. એણે સન્યાસીને સલાહ આપી કે એમણે એમના સન્યાસ અને શક્તિઓ માટે ક્યારેય અભિમાન ન કરવું જોઈએ.

Story of Vyagh, a Butcher

One saint went to a jungle. He was sitting under a tree to do meditation. He was disturbed as a crow and a crane were fighting on the tree. The saint became very angry and just had a thought that crow and crane should burn to ashes. With saintly life and meditation, he had gained high powers. Just by his thought, the crow and crane burned to ashes. Seeing this, the saint became proud of his powers.

One day he went to get alms in the village. He went to a house and asked for alms. There was a woman working in the house. She asked him to wait for some time. The saint became angry as he had to wait for some more time. The woman came out with alms and told the saint that it is very bad for him to get angry and every time the incident of burning the birds don’t get repeated! The saint was very much surprised as how this woman could know the incident of jungle?

He asked her about her powers. She told that she is a very dedicated woman serving her family. She was doing her work sincerely and looking after old in-laws just as she worships God. So she has gained such powers. She then asked the saint to meet a Vyagh – a butcher to get some knowledge from him.

The saint was hesitated to get knowledge from a butcher but after seeing the woman’s powers, he decided to meet the person she has suggested. When he went to the butcher’s house, he was cutting meat. There was bad odour all over the place. The saint thought how such a cruel man can give him knowledge? Then the butcher told the saint that he knew that the woman has sent him here. He asked him to wait. The saint was surprised how this man could know this?

The butcher took the saint inside his home and asked to wait. He gave bath to his old parents, gave them food, gave medicines and prepared their bed. Then he came to the saint.

The saint asked him about Soul and other high level knowledge. The butcher gave a very good sermon to the saint. This is also known as “Vyagh Geeta”.

The butcher told the saint that no work is bad. He was a butcher due to Karma (deed) of his past birth. But he was fully dedicated to his duties and serving his old parents like God. That woman was also sincere in her duties. It is always important to do your duty sincerely. This way there is no difference between a person doing his family duties and a Sanyasin. He advised the saint not to do proud of his saintly position and his powers.
